Free Tech Support at the library through GCC Cyber Seniors Connecting Generations. Help offered: Basic Computer Skills, Using the Internet, Email Support, Setting up New Devices, Accessing Services (-affordable internet and device programs, library resources, health portals, entertainment, and so much more!) This service is made possible by a grant form the EOEA and Greenfield Community College.

Timothy Sheehan Presentation

Saturday August 17 at 1 p.m.

His presentation builds on the 25 species journals of mammals, plants, indicator species, trees and birds currently on display at the library. He will help the audience identify the field marks or special characteristics of the native plants and animals that surround us and make Wendell such a special place in which to live.  Attendees will also have an opportunity to review a number of pocket-size regional guides and reference books. Mr. Sheehan will remain at the library after the presentation to answer questions from the audience.

Live Insect Zoo

Wednesday August 21, 3-5 p.m.

The Umass Amherst Fernald Club will be bringing a variety of live insects, spiders, and other invertebrates; all or nearly all will be available for handling by attendees. Club members will be on hand to facilitate handlings, and to educate attendees about the creatures and answer any questions. They will also be bringing a selection of impressive preserved insect specimens for display, and we’ll be available to discuss them with attendees as well. The club will be selling club T-shirts featuring insect artwork by some of our members, to help raise money for their free educational programs.

Laura Beretsky Book Reading

Saturday August 3, 1 p.m.

Debut author and former Wendell resident Laura Beretsky will share an excerpt from her recently released memoir Seizing Control: Managing Epilepsy and Others’ Reactions to it, followed by a discussion and refreshments.

Summer STEM STEM Tuesdays

August 6, 13 & 20, 3p.m.

Come to the library Tuesday afternoons to learn a bit and have some fun! Because these activities require sourcing materials and set up, please register at least a week ahead of time.

Life in Wendell with Adam Kohl

Saturday August 10, 1 p.m.

“Life In Wendell” is a multi-year project documenting the biological biodiversity in the town of Wendell, MA. Adam Kohl and Bill Stubblefield will be present and speak briefly on the project’s history, process, and results. Insect collections and a list of species will be on display, and there will be plenty of time to interact and ask questions. Revel in the incredible number of species we share our town with!

Community Indigo Dye-Vat

Saturday August 17, 11-noon.

Give a stained textile new life in the indigo dye vat!  Bring a few pieces of clothes/ linens to renew. Just make sure it is a natural fiber that can absorb the color.

Piti Theater “To Bee or Not to Bee” Musical Puppet Show

Sunday August 25, 4 p.m.

at the Wendell Meeting House

**Please arrive early for seats, this event will start on time.**

Farmer James has lost his bees, there’s only gruel to eat and now the townspeople (the audience) have arrived to protest, chanting “There’s no good food, we’re in a bad mood!”

“To Bee or Not to Bee” tells James’ comic, tragic and ultimately hopeful story – complete with puppetry, clowning, dance, live music and lots of audience participation. Piti created the show to raise awareness about the honeybee’s plight and gives children and adults tools for helping pollinators thrive in their communities.

This program is possible in part due to a grant from the Wendell Cultural Council, a local agency funded by Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.”, and the support of The Friends of the Wendell Free Library.
