October at the Wendell Free Library

Library NEWS

There will be no Fiber Circle Oct. 10 because of the Swift River School Open House.  We will meet on October 24.

Celebration of Life for Margo Culley. Sunday Oct. 13th. 2 p.m. Wendell Meetinghouse. Followed by Tree Dedication and Refreshments at the Wendell Free Library. All Welcome. Service is anticipated to be about an hour,  the tree dedication at around 3:10.

Marco Culley was a steady hand on the Wendell Selectboard through the 1990s. She later revived the dormant Friends of the Wendell Free Library, and was the leading voice for fundraising for our current magnificent building.  Please join us in celebrating her life and legacy.

Openings: Agility, Balance & Strength – Free community based fitness

Wendell’s ongoing community based fitness group is opening up to new participants during the month of October.

We meet via Zoom each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 to 9:30am. Current session leaders are Rosie Heidkamp, Karen Idoine and Christine Heard. We work with resistance bands, dumbbells, leg weights, yoga blocks and handballs to create head to toe strength, flexibility and balance. Our motto, “Let no muscle group go unchallenged”. Most of the routine is done while standing. Friday sessions during October will be geared to onboarding new participants. Mondays and Wednesdays will continue at the usual pace and level. Some equipment is available to borrow from the Wendell LIbrary. Once trained there is no requirement to attend every session. When you attend, you agree to be responsible for adhering to your own safe, injury free, level of participation. Contact Rosie directly to learn more and to see if our workout is a good fit for you.

This program joins together a diverse group of individuals with a common interest in fitness. We have a “no religion, no politics” policy to keep it a welcoming space for all.

Library Accessibility Grant Update: After two very thought provoking Community Conversations, we have decided to move forward with using the funds from the ALA Accessibility Grant for installing push button door openers on both the outer and inner lobby doors.  Many other great ideas came from this process, some of them very low cost that we will be able to implement easily, and others which we will seek out other funding sources for. A big thanks to everyone who provided feedback during this process.  There will be an announcement and ribbon cutting ceremony when the door openers are installed.

Change in Library Animal Policy: Please note, the Library Board of Trustees created the following policy on animals in the library: As per Massachusetts Law (MGL,CH 272,Lec 98A), service animals are allowed in the Wendell Free Library. All service animals must be under the control of their handler at all times. Other pets and animals are not allowed in the Wendell Free Library except as authorized by the Library Director or their delegate in order to support a program. Animals whose sole purpose is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
